Nelson Mandela is at the center of this Roxbury Love mural, located in the heart of Black Boston. Boston-based muralists, Kwest and Deme5 created this mural for the city’s Pop Up! Dudley Connections program, which aimed to revitalize the area.
On June 23, 1990, Nelson Mandela made his first visit to the city of Boston. Four years later, he made history on May 10, 1994 by becoming South Africa’s very first Black President.
